Come join us on our beautiful, serene, brackish waters to search for the Bald Eagle, Golden Eagle, Osprey, the Great Blue Heron and many other species of wildfowl! Dorchester County had the second largest concentration of Bald Eagles in the continental U.S.! Don't forget to look below as we try to spot for River Otters, Muskrat and a variety of turtles! Our tours will highlight the local wildlife, the history of the area and our Chesapeake Bay way of life here in Dorchester County.
Tours start out with a basic lesson during which we will go over paddling etiquette, proper paddle stroke and maneuvering. Our skilled guides will then lead you on a relaxed but unforgettable experience of our intricate brackish waterways in search of eagles, ospreys herons and other waterfowl while we share our knowledge of local history and lore.

Transquaking River
this self-guided trip down the transquaking river is from bridge to bridge, so you don’t have to backtrack! named by the native americans that once called the area home, the transquaking river is a narrow and winding brackish waterway that stretches for miles through beautiful swampland, farmland and forests. This is a great tour for return customers looking for a new experience. price includes shuttle transportation back to your vehicle. Approx. 3 hrs.
this tour departs from the hyatt chesapeake bay resort at 9:30 am and 1 pm. Did you know the hyatt has a 18 acre wildlife refuge? be prepared to be amazed as your guide leads you down the river shoreline into shoal creek, a place lost in time. learn about the local and natural history and culture of the eastern shore as you search for many different species of wildlife and waterfowl. this signature tour includes stops at a great blue heron rookery and bald eagles nest! great for adults and children as well as novice and experienced paddlers
sunset paddle
experience the choptank river in a whole new light! this tour departs from our hyatt location and meanders down the river shore going underneath the malkus bridge just in time to see the sunset behind the famous choptank river lighthouse! enjoy the moon rising over the river and lighting the way as you paddle back to shore! departure time may vary depending on sunset time.
Layton's chance winery
meet at the winery and then depart on a 2 hour paddle down the beautiful chicamacomico river located just a short drive away. Our day adventure is a dual experience tour of Blackwater which includes our signature two hour guided kayak tour and a self-guided bike tour through the refuge wildlife drive. Guests are invited to eat the provided boxed lunch here at our waterfront overlook or take it along for a picnic-style lunch inside the refuge! Adventure includes 2 hour kayak tour, bike rental for up to 4 hours, entrance fees, trail map, visitors guide and a box lunch from a local favorite. Price is per person (children 10 and under half price)
